Former Chairperson of Friends of Renal Care
Over 35 years ago Jean commenced working with the Welsh Kidney Patients Association in North Wales, fund raising and supporting patients and their families not just at Glan Clwyd Hospital but all patients across North Wales. Her role within the group developed and before long she was appointed to position of Chairperson, a position she held for a period of two years. Her work didn’t cease here, and she continued with the role of secretary for over thirty years.
The role involved writing to all patients, keeping them up to date with activities via a newsletter, arranging fund raising events, representing the patients at various meetings and most importantly in supporting patients and their families. This was especially important to Jean, knowing first hand what it was like to have renal disease in the family, with her son David courageously living with renal disease up until his death in August of this year.
In 2004 a purpose built Renal & Diabetes Unit was opened at Glan Clwyd, Jean at this time felt her work was done in supporting the development of the new unit. However both staff and patients were not happy for her to relinquish her support and encouraged her along with David and Don and Sharon Webster to form Friends of Renal Care, patients support group.
Jean’s hard work, dedication and commitment were greatly appreciated by all the patients and staff of the Renal Unit
